Why Percival in the 7th tonight?

Troy Percival firmly believes that he pitches better when he pitches more often, so the Rays will do their best to give him more work in non-save situations. Hence him coming on to pitch the seventh tonight with a 7-5 deficit.

“They know that I can’t take a lot of days off,” said Percival, “so we talked about and it said look if an opportunity comes in the game you need me earlier, especially we’re down, what, four runs at the time, three runs, whatever, bring me in so I can keep my work. I want to be sharp for the later-inning saves and what have you.”

He certainly looked fine in dispatching the bottom third of the Indians’ order 1-2-3, perhaps an outing that will get him back on track after Wednesday’s disaster in Baltimore.

It really don’t seem to matter who or when they pitch, it a crap shoot, they are good one time terrible the next and you never know what to expect from ANY pitcher on this staff. NOT ONE STOPPER OR SAVER ON THE ROSTER TO THIS DATE. The pitching is a disaster, they will have to score 10 runs a game to even be in the position to be in post season.

Great win last night.  Of course it was against a struggling team, however, better to win than not to. Have to tip the cap to Maddon for his patience.  Question:  Does anyone think that some of the pitching woes can be rested on Navarro?  Seems to be a lot of shaking off by Ray’s pitchers plus, even Kennedy mentioned the number of wild pitches and the catcher shoulders some blame.  Navarro doesn’t appear to block very well on balls in the dirt. Of course, he caught the staff last year and we all know how good they were. He just isn’t the guy from last year.  Looks like the guy from 2007. Just a thought.
