Who’s not in the lineup for Norfolk and probably coming to Tampa

Judging from the box score for Norfolk’s game tonight against Scranton Willkes-Barre, it looks like the Lightning are calling up a pair of defensemen. The Admirals have dressed just four defensemen for the game - Mike Lundin, Darryl Boyle, Mike Knight and Geoff Kinkade. The two names absent that should be there are Ty Wishart and Kevin Quick.

If that’s the case, and those two are indeed being recalled, then David Koci may just stay at forward, where he practiced today. So Quick and Wishart would join Lukas Krajicek, Noah Welch, Matt Smaby and Vladimir Mihalik will make up the blue line against Washington. Think Alex Ovechkin, Alex Semin and Nicklas Backstrom are licking their lips just thinking about that?

Now, Quick, along with goaltender Riku Helenius, have been loaned to Elmira of the ECHL for their postseason. But since Helenius is playing tonight for Norfolk, I’m going to figure that Quick is not on his way to Elmira but instead has probably already touched down in Tampa and could very well be in his hotel room at the Embassy Suites right now with Wishart.

What ever happened to Mike Lundin? With all the question marks and injuries how come we have not seen much of him lately?

Anthony:  Lundin isn’t being punished or anything (unless there is something not being reported).  The problem is he (Lundin) has to pass through waivers to be recalled by the Lightning and would likely be snatched up by another team.  It’s an age/games played thing that forces him to pass through waivers.  He won’t be able to be recalled until sometime after the season ends (I don’t know the CBA rules regarding this).

Ludnin will be able to return without passing waivers in Training Camp, from there they have to decide if they’re going to be idiots and keep him in the AHL(where he would have to clear waivers to come up) or let him have his spot on the Lightnings roster in which he would have to clear waivers if he was moved down to the AHL.

First of all lets worry about resigning Matt Smaby to a long term deal.

No Lundin is being punished but not for anything that he did but for the stupidity of the GM who sent him down in the first place. The fact that the has had to languish all season in the AHL (and had his development set back) because he will be claimed if recalled is a punishment. It harkens back to the early days of Lawton when if you have a bad game or two you were done. No long term thinking was in place when he was sent down and Lundin and TB (and especially the fans) have been punished for it all year. Let’s hope there is a bit more foresight next season.
