Where Is The Love?

I don’t know about you, but after watching sports highlights shows on Sunday and Monday, I was left with one lingering question.

Why aren’t the Bucs getting much recognition for their 4-2 start?

You expect Dallas and Green Bay to grab a lot of national attention, but Arizona has received way more attention than Tampa Bay and both teams have the same record.

In fact, Atlanta QB Matt Ryan is being built up as the league’s next great quarterback, leading his team to a 4-2 record, but Tampa Bay dismantled him recently. The Falcons are also 0-2 in the NFC South, but Tampa Bay stands atop the division at 2-1.

So why is Tampa Bay being overlooked?

My thought is simply because the Bucs are not a flashy team.

There are no long pass plays to Larry Fitzgerald, or exciting runs by Ronnie Brown. Instead, the Bucs has a team first attitude, which is not as flashy as Terrell Owens whining about not getting the ball.

Nothing is flashy about Earnest Graham volunteering to play fullback when Byron Storer was injured. There are not many highlights of rookie offensive lineman Jeremy Zuttah filing in to play left guard and right guard this season. Tampa Bay’s defense shuts down every running back it plays, but that does not get people talking around the water cooler. Alex Smith has as many touchdown receptions (two) as Tony Gonzalez and L.J. Smith, plus more than Kellen Winslow, but is not mentioned among elite NFL tight ends.

Philadelphia, New Orleans, Green Bay, San Diego, Baltimore and Indianapolis may have more attention.

Tampa Bay has more wins.

That is more important.

Amen to that. I always feel like Tampa gets less respect than any other team. I guess most of the newswriters are old enough to clearly remember the Bad Old Days and have the creamsicle prejudice hanging over their heads when they sit down to write copy. No matter. Years that we get disrespected the most are often the years we progress the furthest in the postseason. I like any excuse to get General Brooks to rally the troops into a unified effort.

Personally, I think the media has a ton to do with it. Gruden doesn’t like to make his locker room open to the public, and he prefers to deal with his stuff in-house. The one thing the media can’t stand is someone who won’t pander to them, and Gruden doesn’t. This has angered the local media to the point that they ridicule him and most of the sheep-like fans believe the blanks the media tries to fill in. I tend to believe the front office for the Bucs most of the time, while a believe the media a very small portion of the time.

Its about ime someone says something about the Bucs not getting attention.  I live in KC, Mo.  I dont even get the Buc games.  I had to watch the game last week on the computer.  They never show any highlights from the Bucs and if they do its just for a second.  Even when I am watching another game they never do a game break for the Bucs to show how they score.  They always do one for Favre, Colts, Dallas, and every other team.  Instead of the Tampa game they televised the Atl-bears game and the Ravens-Colts game.  This year i will only get to see 3 Bucs games.  2 of which (KC and Carolina)I will be there in person, the other is the sunday night game next week.

I agree with you Charles… Living here in Dallas and getting the ATL-CHI game was really lame when the Bucs-Panthers was to be one of the biggest battles of the day. Now they are talking that the NFC South is the toughest division…hopefully they will reschdule a few televised games.

I will be heading to the Bucs-Cowboys game… with the way that the Bucs are playing now, there are a lot of worried Cowboys fans.  GO BUCS !!!

For the last five years or so, ESPN and the major networks have been slanted toward the AFC. Next they promote the NFC East. After that, it’s more AFC. Don’t you remember last year.  The Giants got no love until they smacked ESPN’s favorite Patriots.  This has always bothered me.  I feel that the NFC South is the toughest division in the NFC. They all should get some love.  Right now, it’s a toss up division. Coming down the stretch it’s going to be very interesting.

Who cares?  Under the radar, that’s how I want it.

Did you catch how hyped Eli Manning was in the coverage before the Browns game?

Let everyone get the spotlight, we get the wins.
