He ran for 104 yards. He passed for 232. Heck, USF quarterback B.J. Daniels had more total yards (336) than the entire West Virginia team (323).
What impressed you the most about Daniels in USF’s 30-19 win over the Mountaineers?
I’m heading out of the press box here at Raymond James Stadium shortly, but I’ll be back tomorrow with a more complete analysis of USF’s important win and more talk about B.J. Daniels.
For a guy making his fifth career start, he looked pretty good.
Good night.

USF relies to much on their Quarterbacks. It scares me to see BJ taking all these hits and tackles. Yes he’s good, but still rough, raw and taking way to much on himself.

He throws a great long ball and seems to have an extra gear in the open field. He might be scary good by the time he’s a senior.

I agree, and there were a couple of first-half passes that definitely should have been caught (I don’t count the leaping ones over the middle where the receivers are hit a millisecond after the ball arrives). But on the other side, we were lucky not to have three or four interceptions—besides the one on our sideline where the DB had the ball and an open field, BJD tried to thread several through needle-eye openings, mostly in the endzone.

I was impressed by how much he’s learned in 5 games. He runs when the lane is there, he throws when our guys are open, sometimes directing them like he’s in a sand lot. Very few forced throws, but there were a few. And if our receivers would catch the ball a little more instead of dropping passes that are nearly perfect, he’d have a better completion percentage. There’s a lot to look forward to. I guess our coaches learned to trust him a little more. You can’t cage a wild horse. Gotta let him run free. Great game. Can we do that to Miami (please)?

Jon:
Good point on Daniels taking a lot of hits ... I watched the same up at FSU with Christian Ponder ... it eventually becomes an issue the way it did for Ponder on Saturday against N.C. State ... Daniels is a load to bring down, but as he gains more experience, I’m sure he’ll learn, plus the coaches will be reminding him not to take hits when he can avoid them.
