Wharton senior offensive lineman Blake Nold has verbally committed to Assumption College, a Division II program located in Worcester, Mass.
Nold also had garnered interest from Appalachian State, Ohio, and Robert Morris, among others, but was sold on Assumption’s program after making an official visit a little more than two weeks ago. He gave his pledge to the program on Thursday.
“Nobody pulled the trigger, but then Assumption offered and the visit went really well and it just went from there,” Nold said. “The biggest thing was the coaching staff. I was able to get along with everybody. That’s what really attracted me to the university and that’s why I made my committment there.”
Nold was a second-team All-Western Conference pick as a senior. He also is an accomplished wrestler for the Wildcats and finished as the 285-pound individual runner-up at the 2010 Hillsborough County Championships on Saturday.
The Assumption Greyhounds finished 6-4 in 2009, 5-3 in Northeast 10 Conferece play.
