Wharton coach David Mitchell said senior running back Shane McEwen will play Friday against Chamberlain. McEwen, who rushed for over 1,000 yards last season, did not play against Spoto last week due to a sprained ankle.
“That’s good news,” Mitchell said. “He was real tender [last week]. He couldn’t move off of it.”
Spoto held Wharton to just 18 yards rushing on Friday.
Mitchell also said junior Ryan Hatter has earned the starting quarterback position. Hatter entered the game in the second quarter last week to relieve junior Tanner Stocker. Hatter threw for 38 yards in a 28-0 loss to Spoto.
