One of Hillsborough County’s most talented tennis players has made his college decision.
Wharton senior Michael Alford, the Tribune’s reigning Boys Tennis Player of the Year, has verbally committed to the University of Florida. Alford chose the Gators over Florida State.
Alford has been the top player for the Wildcats in each of the past two seasons, leading Wharton to consecutive Class 3A state titles.
Last season, Alford won the Class 3A individual state title and also paired with Rohit Navelkar to finish as the 3A doubles state runner-up. For his efforts, Alford was named the Florida Dairy Farmers’ Class 3A player of the year.
