As if a two-game losing streak wasn’t enough, Wesley Chapel has been hit by the injury bug and could be missing up to seven starters for Friday’s 5A-6 match-up against the top ranked and undefeated Pasco.

Wildcats coach Ben Alford said Wednesday afternoon that CB Kudeil Gomez (wrist) and S Chris Ayers (rotator cuff) are definitely out Friday, that OG Cody Green (concussion) has yet to be cleared to play, that OL Quinton Sylvester has been suspended for disciplinary reasons and OL Damien Garvey may miss the game due to personal family matters.

On top of all that, QB Keegan Tanner is nursing an ankle injury that had the senior held out of Monday’s practice, but did participate in Tuesday’s session, according to Alford. Tanner is expected to be a game-time decision Friday as is RB Devin Piper (ribs, wrist).

“It does not look real good right now,” Alford said. “We caught this injury bug at the worst time, but we’re going to have to plug in some guys and go with what we have. We got hit with thing we can’t control and have to make the best of it.”

After starting the season 2-0, Wesley Chapel (2-2, 0-2) has dropped back-to-back district games to Zephyrhills and Fivay and now faces the Pirates (5-0, 2-0), who have three-straight shutouts, outscoring opponents 158-0, while allowing just six points in their last four games.
