Wesley Chapel lineman R.J. Nixon and tight end Chris Pierre-Charles will be on a college football roster this fall.
Nixon, who anchored the offensive line for the Wildcats at center, will play for Ave Maria University in Naples, while Pierre-Charles is headed to Dean College in Franklin, Mass.
Both will sign their letter-of-intent Wednesday afternoon at Wesley Chapel High.
Pierre-Charles had to be versatile in his senior season. He entered the season as a tight end, but due to youth, moved into the offensive backfield. As the Wildcats’ second-leading rusher, Pierre-Charles carried the ball 63 times for 257 yards. He also caught the ball five times for 87 yards in a run-heavy offense.
Nixon joins Mitchell’s Corey Smith, who recently committed to Ave Maria University. The Gyrenes program is in its infancy and won’t begin its first official season until 2011. The school, an NAIA member, will compete in The Sun Conference against Edward Waters, Embry-Riddle, Florida Memorial, Johnson & Wales, Northwood, Savannah College of Art and Design, St. Thomas, South Carolina at Beaufort, Southeastern, Warner Southern and Webber International.
