As National Signing Day snatches the majority of the attention in the prep world, Wesley Chapel had some news of its own.
The search to fill John Castelamare’s position as head coach of the Wildcats is down to five candidates.
Longtime Wesley Chapel assistant Brian Colding; longtime Zephyrhills assistant Troy Hochstetler; former Pasco quarterback and current Iowa Western Community College defensive backs coach Ben Alford; Kansas high school coach Mike Einspahr, who has also been an assistant at New Mexico State and Concordia; and Wildwood coach Matthew Thompson.
“All five of these candidates that we selected to go to the second round are all excited and very dynamic,” Wesley Chapel athletic director Steve Mumaw said. “They’re going to bring a sense of new energy to Wesley Chapel.”
The second round of interviews will begin this Friday and conclude on Monday. Following that, the committee will look through each coach’s packet of information, which has been requested by Wesley Chapel, and then a decision should be made before the end of next week.
