Werdine now a Tampa Prep Terrapin

Junior Rebecca Werdine, one of the county’s top sprinters, will be swimming for Tampa Prep this season.

Werdine transferred from Plant to Tampa Prep over the summer, Terrapins coach Jason Bowes said.

A two-time Tampa Tribune All-Hillsborough County team selection, Werdine won a gold medal as part of Plant’s 200 Free Relay Team her freshman season. She also won a silver medal as part of the 400 Free Relay Team.

Last season, Werdine finished seventh in the 50 Free, 10th in the 100 Free and helped Plant medal (8th place) in the 400 Free Relay.

“She just felt she wasn’t getting challenged in school,” Bowes said of the switch. “She’s a very bright girl and wanted more of a challenge academically.”
