Weekly Hillsborough County soccer Coaches’ polls released

The Hillsborough County girls and boys soccer coaches’ poll were released Tuesday with Plant remaining at the top for the third straight week in the girls poll with two crucial matches between top five teams tonight as Class 5A-District 7’s playoffs will start to take shape as Bloomingdale hosts Newsome and Wharton hosts Plant.

In one surprising move however, area coaches dropped still undefeated Tampa Prep (which the Tampa Tribune ranked No. 4 last week in its poll) two spots and left the four-time-running, state final four qualifying Terrapins behind three teams that suffered losses last week.

In the boys poll Jesuit and Wharton stay at the top 2 spots, while Durant cracks the top 10. The Tigers earned wins last week against King and Robinson, while Wharton defeated Newsome and Strawberry Crest.

The coaches poll, in its third season, is released weekly and a tabulated by Wharton soccer coaches Denis Vukorep (girls) and Scott Ware (boys) and accepts votes from any Hillsborough County soccer coach. Teams listed with record as of Monday and previous ranking in parenthesis.

In the ESPNHS Fab 50 boys winter soccer poll, Gaither has moved in to the rankings at No. 46 as the only local boys program, while the Plant girls (ranked at No. 50 last week) have moved up to No. 37 for the week. In the ESPNHS Florida Top 20 poll Plant (No. 7) and Newsome (No. 12) are ranked in the girls poll, while Gaither (No. 10) is again the only area team ranked on the polls poll.
