This caught my eye at practice today as Mike Smith skated and did some puck handling to test out his injured fractured ring finger. Shortly after I turned off my video camera, Smith switched from the heavy goaltender’s stick to a lighter player’s stick. He didn’t take any shots that I could see, but did do some work with goaltending consultant Frantz Jean. Smith had hoped he might be ready by Saturday, though he later admitted that was probably unrealistic. He hopes to get in one of next weekend’s games against Florida.
