Walsh Reveals Secrets Regarding Taping Of Bucs Defensive Signals

TAMPA – It was learned a couple months ago that the Patriots habit of taping opposing team’s defensive signals dated all the way back to the 2000 season opener, which just happened to be a game against the Bucs.

Well, in an interview that will be aired tonight at 8 on HBO’s Real Sports, former Patriots videographer Matt Walsh explains just how much the Patriots knew about the Bucs signals and how they went about using that information to attempt to gain an advantage.

We say attempt because the Patriots hadn’t quite perfected the art of parlaying stolen signals into winning football yet. Though they had taped the Bucs defensive signals during a preseason game a couple weeks earlier and knew “about 75 percent of the time’’ what defense the Bucs were running, the Patriots still lost that game 21-16.

Walsh says the Patriots quarterback in that game, Drew Bledsoe, was informed through the electronic communication system in his helmet of what defense the Bucs were running within seconds of the Bucs calling the defense.

Th Jets never got the Pats pick.  They got Green Bays pick through a trade
It just happened to be the 30th pick in the draft.  The Pats forefeited thier pick.

The Jets didn’t receive a pick from the NFL for the taping scandal. The Pats lost theirs, and the Jets just happened to trade up one spot before where the Pats would have drafted.

Hey Roger Goodell where our compensatory Pats pick? Maybe someone in the BUCS org can speak to this issue?

All, the Jets had the 31st pick in the Draft, it wasn’t exactly the Pats pick but I believe it was a compensatory pick awarded to the Jets between the 1st and 2nd round.  So essentially, the league awarded the Jets a pick as part of the taping scandal.  To be fair, we should also get a pick as the Pats taped our signals too.

How did the Jets get a pick right behind the Giants at #30 ?? That was there 2nd pick in the 1st round.

Posted by  Doug, Tampa on 05/17  at  02:01 PM

The Patriots had the 49er’s 1st rounder (took a Lb from Tenn) as well as their own, which was forfeited, not awarded to the Jets.

Hey Clam-heads! you think The Curse of The Bambino was bad?!?! I lay on thee the Curse of The Spygate! May the Pats never win a superbowl for another 100 years…

31 picks. No one received the Pats pick. The Dolphins, at the top of the second round, took de Merling from Clemson with pick 32.

Thats right the Jets got Dustin Keller with that pick I’m sorry. Mitch you are right where’s ours.

Posted by  Todd, PSJ,FL on 05/16  at  10:24 PM

RAW, I’m sorry I guess I’m wrong. But I don’t think the pick went to the Jets and I know it didn’t go to us.

If I remember right the Pats had 2 picks in the first round, am I right or am I wrong?

Mitch R,
Im pretty sure that Roger Goodell just removed the Pats pick. There was only 31 picks in this years 1st round.

You are right Mitch, where’s ours?

Posted by  Mitch R, NYC on 05/16  at  08:17 PM

Didn’t the Jets receive a pick from the Pats due to their taping of signals?  Where’s our pick?
