Tampa Prep defeated Tallahassee Maclay and Plant beat Miami Ferguson to advance to Saturday’s state championship matches. Tampa Prep will face Orlando First Academy in the 2A final at noon while Plant will face Winter Park in the 6A title match at 5 p.m.
You can read more in Saturday’s Tampa Tribune.
On a side note, when one reporter asked Plant players and coach Leanna Taylor about Tampa being a hotbed for volleyball talent and how playing teams like Tampa Prep and Berkeley Prep give them an advantage, the players and Taylor expressed their displeasure of not playing Berkeley Prep this year. Jokingly, members of the media suggested they play an unsanctioned match in a neutral gym to decide who is the top team in Tampa, if not the state. The Plant players said they would.
What do you all think? Should Berkeley Prep and Plant play in an unsanctioned match for bragging rights?
