Members of Plant and Berkeley Prep’s state championship volleyball teams were awarded by Florida Dairy Farmers on Tuesday.
Berkeley Prep sophomore outside hitter Jordan Burgess was named Class 3A Player of the Year; Berkeley Prep coach Randy Dagostino was named 3A Coach of the Year; Plant senior outside hitter Maddie Martin was named 6A Player of the Year and Plant coach Leanna Taylor was named 6A coach of the year, Florida Dairy Farmers director of high school awards Troy Bell confirmed.
Burgess led Berkeley Prep, the 3A state champion, with 363 kills, 71 aces, 48 blocks, and 385 digs. Dagostino, in his 27th season, guided the program to its 13th state title under his direction.
Martin, who last week was named an Under Armour All-American, led 6A champion Plant with 390 kills, 53 aces, 29 blocks and 224 digs. Taylor coached the Panthers to their fourth consecutive state title and first 6A title.
Burgess and Martin are finalists for Miss Volleyball while Dagostino and Taylor are finalists for Coach of the Year. Taylor was named the Florida Dairy Farmers 2008 Coach of the Year.
