Gators Report With Mick Elliott

Video wars: Now a video circulating on late Georgia hit

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow said on Monday that Georgia players were doing some of the same stuff that got Gators linebacker Brandon Spikes suspended for a half in last Saturday’s 41-7 win against the Bulldogs.

And here we go again.

Tebow said on Monday that cheap shots just fire him up and he doesn’t retaliate.

A video is out circulating of Georgia’s Nick Williams (at left) hitting Tebow well after he handed the ball off on a running play.

I agree about head hunting but I grew up when Drysdale and Gibson and Juan Marachel pitched . When you hit a home run off those guys the next guy up always got a close shave . You never dug in on those guys because the same thing would happen. If the pitchers can’t get the hitters out get another job or go back to the minors don’t bean the guy. Hit him in leg or the thigh but not the head. I think they should do away with conference officials and put all the officials in a pool and draw to see who does what game . Ilove football and hard hitting just not the cheap shots.

Hey, FlaJoe, watch ESPN Game Day and then I too watch ALL the games ALL day long. I don’t think we’re that far apart. Your point is well taken. Yeah, I’m a Gator fan, but hopefully I don’t sell my soul or my morals for that. I do not condone dirty play. I think MLB pitchers who throw at a batter because they didn’t like his facial expression when he hit a h.r. the last time up should be arrested. Seriously. If you don’t like him hitting homeruns, then pitch better next time. I also know what it’s like out there on the gridiron, how dirty it can get, and how the officials ALL TOO OFTEN don’t get it under control. But, that said, no, eye gouging is unacceptable and intolerable and I won’t attempt to justify it.

Mike I am a college football fan much like most people . My team hails from the midwest . But I watch college football from noon to the last games on saturday. This kinda bs is happening way to much any more . There is no place in the game for this crud. If florida has complaints you know how I feel ,get the sec involved . What a man try to gauge a guy in the eye while you got him down.
If you want to protect your teamate why not knock the guy into next week on a clean tackle or hit ,not dirty play .On a side note if Spikes sits out just the Vandy game do you really think it will make much of a difference? It sounds like you are a gator fan so good luck to you and your team these thoughts were just my opinion.

Spikes stood up for his teammates like a man, and now he’s taking his punishment like a man. I’m not buying into the overly-sensationalized reaction, particularly any reaction that doesn’t take into account the circumstances in which the act occurred, and particularly a reaction that presumes the most sinister of intents without any resulting damage or injury to back it up. And, finally, if you’re TRULY not a fan of either team, o.k., if you say so, but then what are you doing on this blog?

“Here we go again” is in the article. You ought to read it. Where do you get “trying to blind?” Could you be any more dramatic? How do you know that? Why not “trying to kill?” The Ga player said he never even touched him! Whereas Williams made PLENTY of contact in trying to take out the recently concussed Tebow. Dirty is dirty, and I don’t condone it, but it has to be viewed in the context of what the other team is doing and the fact that Spikes was standing up for his own team—since CLEARLY the officials did not have the situation under control—is to be commended. Just see MLB and NHL for other examples of identical behavior (how about a 95 m.p.h. fastball to the head?—happens all the time).

I don’t know where it says here we go again in my post . Like I stated I am not a fan of either team But players should be held accountable for their actions and a game or half game suspension dosen’t cut it . No matter what Uga did you can’t defend Spikes for his play its wrong no matter what you say. If the uga players are guilty of infractions find the video evidence get the sec office s involved with diciplinary action. Trying to blind somebody is near the line with crimminal assult. Nobody deserves a break when they play to injure another .

What do you mean “here we go again?” Spikes was standing up for his team. Georgia played dirty the whole game. Williams’ late hit, as sinister and evilly premeditated as anything I’ve ever seen on the field, on a recently concussed Tebow was every bit, if not more, egregious than what Spikes TRIED to do.  Williams actually succeeded. You guys all want to pile on Spikes, but like Easley himself said: that’s the way today’s players apparently play the game.  He referred to it as “having fun.”  Go figure. But get off Spikes’ back for defending his team against the thuggery of Georgia.

Spikes deserves more than a half game suspension. If there is video evidence with UGA players doing the same crap send it to the sec offices and get them involved . There is absolutly no place in football for this kind of BS. I am not a fan of either team but players should be held accountable for their actions. This is typical thug play that permeates football. I love watching a hard hitting game but there is no place for cheap shots.
