Video: Leavitt’s interview with WFLA

Players report for the start of fall camp at USF three weeks from today.

For the first time in USF football history, former Bulls head coach Jim Leavitt won’t be there to greet them.

Leavitt was fired in January following a university investigation into allegations he grabbed player Joel Miller by the throat and slapped him in the face during halftime of the Nov. 21 game against Louisville.

USF has moved on, hiring Skip Holtz to take over the Bulls and put a new face on the program.

However, Leavitt is embroiled in what is shaping up to be a long and intense legal battle with USF.

WFLA Channel 8 anchor Gayle Sierens sat down with Leavitt recently for an exclusive interview.

I know you and others have to report it…..I just wish he would go away.

Thanks for everything you have done, it won’t be forgotten but go away! Let the students, fans and Alumni enjoy fball season.

I’m not so sure. I don’t know why Gayle Sierens felt the need to drudge this back up right now. Why not let the lawsuit run its course and see where the chips fall - and deal with it then?

I still believe USF will settle with Leavitt, and probably do so in such a manner that both sides can claim victory. This situation is keeping him from becoming a head coach for millions of dollars a year at a different school for 20 or 30 more years, so when you look at that, you figure he has no choice but to fight it to the bitter end.

If I was fired for something I didn’t do, I would never stop fighting.

It’s a shame; if things had gone differently, one day there might have been the Bulls playing on Leavitt field…

The future on-campus stadium should be known as “The Jim.”
