Coming off an undefeated five-game road trip, NASL Conference-leader Vancouver returns home to face bottom team AC St. Louis in Thursday night’s USSF Division II action.
ST. LOUIS (2-8-2) AT VANCOUVER (6-2-7): The Whitecaps are on a seven-game undefeated streak overall entering tonight’s game, allowing them to open up a six-point lead at the top of the NASL Conference. At the center of their success has been their defensive strength, conceding only eight goals in 15 games this season.
Vancouver’s undefeated run through June was backed by some outstanding performances by goalkeeper Jay Nolly. As a result, the Whitecaps’ goalkeeper could be in line for USSF Division II Player of the Month honors after going 3-0-3 with a 0.67 goals against average.
St. Louis, on the other hand, remains adrift at the bottom of the standings six points behind both Miami and Puerto Rico. The Saints did earn a 0-0 draw against the Whitecaps at Anheuser-Busch Soccer Park two weeks ago, though, which offers a little hope for tonight’s contest.
