A stunning stoppage-time volley by Luca Bellisomo gave Vancouver a 2-1 victory against Montreal to extend its lead at the top of the NASL Conference to seven points on Wednesday night at the Stade Saputo in the USSF Division II’s only midweek action.
Montreal took an early lead, Tony Donatelli scoring just three minutes in for the Impact, and they could have added to their advantage before the break. The Whitecaps held only allowing the one goal, Jay Nolly making four saves to allow his side to regroup.
Vancouver played far better after the break and tied the game in the 66th minute, Greg Janicki firing a turning shot home from inside the penalty area for the equalizer. Then in stoppage time Martin Nash served up his sixth assist of the season on an angled cross that Bellisomo volleyed home to give the Whitecaps victory, maintaining their undefeated road-trip that concludes in Portland on Saturday.
