Vancouver rallied from a halftime deficit to earn a point against Minnesota in Sunday’s USSF Division II action.
MINNESOTA 1, VANCOUVER 1: Martin Nash, usually the provider as the league’s leading assist man, scored the game-tying goal as the Whitecaps avoided a second straight defeat at home with a draw against the Stars.
Minnesota had taken the lead in the 28th minute, Simone Bracallelo’s long drive eluding Whitecaps goalkeeper Jay Nolly, but Vancouver hit back in the 67th minute as Nash scored his second goal of the season.
The draw, though, will probably be an unsatisfying result for both sides. Vancouver still sits atop the NASL Conference, but second-placed Carolina is only six points behind with four fewer games played. Minnesota is in a more precarious position, sitting just three points ahead of Montreal, Tampa Bay and Puerto Rico with three more games played than their rivals at the bottom of the playoff picture.
