AUSTIN 2, MIAMI 1: Eddie Johnson converted a late penalty kick, his second goal of the game, after Miami appeared to have earned a point late at Lockhart Stadium.

Austin carried the play for most of the half, Caleb Patterson-Sewell making two good saves to keep the game just 1-0 at half time. Miami fared better in the second half, especially after the introduction of Paulo Araujo Jr., and it appeared he had earned a point for his side with an excellent shot from the top of the penalty area in the 86th minute.

Just a minute later, though, Miami’s Eusebio Neto brought down Austin’s Peri Marsovic in the penalty area, and Johnson fired home to give the Aztex’s victory.

ROCHESTER 3, PUERTO RICO 0: The Rhinos cruised to victory, scoring early before putting the game away in the second half against the Islanders.

Ryan Heins gave Rochester the lead in the seventh minute, and then turned provider on the Rhinos’ second goal as he released Anthony Hamilton just before the hour-mark to score his fourth goal of the season. Max Ferdinand then capped the victory after coming on as a late substitute, scoring in the 90th minute.

MINNESOTA 3, BALTIMORE 1: The Stars rebounded from their defeat to Portland with late goals by Brian Cvilikas and Andres Arango giving it victory against the Eagles.

Warren Ukah had given Minnesota the lead in the 17th minute, but CP Baltimore tied the game five minutes into the second half as Tsuyoshi Yoshitake scored his first goal of the season. Minnesota retook the lead 15 minutes later, Cvilikas finishing from an assist from Geison Moura. Arango then added an insurance goal in the 81st minute.

CAROLINA 2, MONTREAL 2: The Impact rallied from a 2-0 second-half deficit, scoring twice in the last 15 minutes to earn a point against the RailHawks.

Carolina had appeared on course for their second win in a row against Montreal, Sallieu Bundu scoring with his first touch of the game in the 61st minute after being brought on as a substitute two minutes earlier. Floyd Franks then converted from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute after Daniel Paladini was brought down in the penalty area.

Montreal hit back two minutes later, though, Simon Gatti scoring off a corner and then tied the game in stoppage time, Bundu being whistled for a handball. Tony Donatelli scored from the spot, giving the Impact a point.

VANCOUVER 0, ST. LOUIS 0: The Whitecaps held on for a point after being reduced to 10 men in the second half and having to withstand a late surge by the Saints.

Vancouver had the better of the first half, Martin Nash twice having free kicks saved by St. Louis goalkeeper Alex Dufty, and Nelson Akwari going close with a header from a corner. The tide turned when Vancouver’s Cornelius Stewart received a second yellow card for diving. St. Louis tried to take advantage, Mike Ambersley’s shot flying just wide in the 82nd minute before Whitecaps goalkeeper Jay Nolly saved well from Gauchinho shortly after.

The game ended in a tie, though, leaving the Whitecaps with a four-point cushion at the top of the NASL Conference standings.
