University of South Florida senior Irene Rehberger advanced to the second round of the NCAA Individual Tennis Championships with a three-set victory over Alabama’s Mary Anne Macfarlane on Wednesday.
Rehberger, ranked 35th in the latest ITA rankings, defeated No. 37 Macfarlane 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at the Taube Family Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif., to advance to the round of 32 in the NCAA singles competition for a second consecutive year.
Rehberger, the Big East Conferece’s co-player of the year, will square off Thursday against Northwestern’s Maria Mosolova.
