Former USF defensive backs Jerome Murphy and Nate Allen are scheduled to participate in drills at the NFL combine today in Indianapolis.
Allen may not participate in running drills based on reports earlier in the week that he is suffering from a strained leg muscle.
Tennessee safety Eric Berry is considered the top defensive back available in the draft, but the Sunshine State is unquestionably the leading producer of highly rated DBs according to NFL.com senior columnist Vic Carucci.
Click here to read Carucci rank his top DBs in the draft: Murphy, Allen, Florida’s Joe Haden and Florida State’s Patrick Robinson all make his list. Former FSU player Myron Rolle, perhaps the most hyped of the group, does not, and neither does Florida’s Major Wright.
I’m no NFL scout, but here is how I predict this group of Florida-schooled DBs end up in the draft: Haden (first round), Allen and Robinson (second round), Murphy (fourth round), Rolle (fifth round) and Wright (seventh round).
For those draftniks among the faithful readers of this blog, you can catch all the 40-yard dashes and long jumps live on NFL.com today.

Murphy really shouldn’t go that early. Honestly, he has some athleticism but he doesn’t have the mentalality of a Pro-DB. Even if he can tackle, he is terrible at judging coverage. He was occasionally burned on long routes this season and completely ineffective on most short route coverage. It’s possible he could go in the fourth but if it were up to me I wouldn’t draft him that early… maybe even at all.

SR42,
I sort of agree with you, but surprised at how high I’ve seen a couple of scouts project him…if he goes fourth round or higher, he must really impressed at combine at USF pro day later this month.
