University of South Florida sophomore women’s golfer Christina Miller made a big impression in her first tournament with the Bulls.

Miller, a transfer from Mississippi, claimed the individual title at the Golfweek Program Challenge in Pawley’s Island, S.C., on Tuesday, firing a 5 under 66 in her final round to finish the 54-hole event at 3 under.

USF finished fifth among 12 teams at its season-opening event, 20 strokes back of champion East Carolina. Junior Brie Heinzler, another transfer from Furman, finished tied for 18th after shooting 1 over in her final round, while junior Shena Yang, a two-time All-Big East selection for the Bulls, finished tied for 29th.

The USF men’s golf team also competed at the Golfweek Program Challenge and finished tied for with Jacksonville State in the 12-team field, seven strokes back of champion Campbell.

Three Bulls placed in the top six individually - freshmen Branden Collins and Trey Valentine each finished 9 under at the 54-hole event to tie for fourth, while sophomore Bodi Karsono was one stroke back to take sixth.
