University of South Florida men’s soccer player Brenton Griffiths has been named the Big East Conference’s defensive player of the week following his performances in victories over Louisville and Villanova last week.
Griffiths, a junior, helped USF limit the Cardinals and Wildcats to one goal each, and he also provided the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over Villanova.
The Bulls (11-2-2 overall) have won six straight and are unbeaten in their last nine games. At 6-0-1 in Big East play, USF has already locked up a bye into the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament, and on Wednesday at home against Cincinnati the Bulls have a chance to lock up the conference’s Red Division title.
DANIELS ON HONOR ROLL: USF junior quarterback B.J. Daniels was named to the Big East’s weekly honor roll after throwing for 409 yards and three touchdowns in a 37-34 loss Saturday to Cincinnati.
Daniels completed 31 of 48 passes in producing the best single-game passing yardage total in program history. It was Daniels’ third 300-yard passing game of the season.
