If you’re looking for something to do on Saturday night—and to do it cheaply—then you’ve come to the right place.
As a reward to our readers, viewers and online users, The Tampa Tribune, TBO.com and WFLA-News Channel 8 are offering a $5 ticket special to USF’s season opener on Saturday night against Stony Brook at Raymond James Stadium.
The tickets are regularly priced $25.
Here are the three ways to redeem the $5 tickets:
—Log on to TBO.com and enter keyword BULLS FAN in the search box
—Bring the ad that ran in Saturday’s Tampa Tribune on Page 8 of the Sports section to the Sun Dome ticket office
—On game day, bring the same ad to the Raymond James Stadium ticket office
There you go. Pretty simple—and cheap entertainment on a Saturday night.

If we actually played a quality opponent, like UCF for a home opener, we wouldn’t need to essentially give away tickets at $5 a piece (and you can’t tell me the place wouldn’t be packed with those looney tunes from Mousetown). However, the old regime was very intent in scheduling an absolute cup cake to potentially limit the damage before playing a capable BCS opponent. I hope Skip shows a little more moxy with the scheduling. I’d rather play a quality road opponent then have a meaningless home game against a cupcake every year. Anywhere, any place, anytime.

UF_Sucks: I’ve heard similar opinions from others, and I have to agree. I think you’ll see the program add some better out-of-conference opponents under Holtz once the current contracts run out…An annual USF-UCF season opener every season would be fun for the fans and actually boost the exposure of the season opener…
oldgreenandgold: I appreciate you checking out the blog and thanks for the note.

I’m not sure I would consider UCF a quality opponent, or that they would draw huge opening crowds. They have been the most obnoxious drunken idiots the past few years, and I don’t want to expose my family or myself to that kind of an afternoon. So that would be a few empty seats from a season ticket holder. It’s not worth it to me. I also understand that scheduling cupcakes was a practice that I didn’t like but that it was the athletic director and not the head coach who was responsible for it. Not sure if that’s true, but if it is, we wouldn’t necessarily see a change because Holtz said he liked it and Woolard is still AD

Trying to remember what $5 would buy when I was a graduating senior and pauper at USF in 1972:
Suggest removalGasoline for the week in my Chevelle.
Beer for Friday night. (nothing left for a
Saturday night ticket)
Three or Four Big Macs to keep me in food for the whole weekend.
Okay, $5 isn’t that precious these days, (although if the recession lasts much longer it may soon be so again) and I’d love to be down there and spend it to mingle with the USF crowd this weekend. Go Bulls.

To Ken in Georgia asking about BlueRidgeBull:
Suggest removalI live in Roanoke County, Va., at the edge of the mountains and near the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Looking forward to reading comments from USF fans who do get to the game on Saturday.
On Monday, Sept. 6, I’m invited to the Virginia Tech-Boise State game in Maryland, which should be fun.
Meantime, Go Bulls.
