Playing in front of a national television audience on Fox Soccer Channel and 1,124 at Corbett Soccer Stadium, the USF women’s soccer team stood its ground against defending national champion Notre Dame, earning a 1-1 tie Thursday night.
The Bulls got a late goal in regulation from senior Valorie O’Brien, who found the back of the net in the 86th minute, to force overtime in front of the third-largest home crowd in program history. Neither the Bulls nor Irish, who entered the game ranked 20th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, were able to score in the two extra periods.
USF is now 4-3-3 on the year and 0-1-2 in Big East Conference play.
