The last time USF won four consecutive games against a non-conference opponent was when the Bulls beat Liberty from 1998-2001. Then what did the Bulls do? They ended the series, of course. Apparently Liberty wasn’t competitive enough.
Now 14 USF seniors go for a four-game sweep of UCF in the final game of the series, which USF is ending. Coincidence?
Also in Wednesday’s Tampa Tribune, senior WR Marcus Edwards, or Cap, as he’s called by WR coach Mike Canales has been a constant leader for the wide receivers. One day, Edwards wants to be an athletic director – possibly at USF (watch out Doug Woolard).
And finally “Ticketgate,” has been solved.
On Tuesday afternoon, UCF associate AD Joe Hornstein told me that USF was returning 542 tickets of its allotment of 4,500 tickets for Saturday’s game.
I couldn’t imagine why USF would return tickets, so I contacted USF executive AD Bill McGillis Tuesday. He said Hornstein’s statements were “absolutely untrue.” But McGillis said he would check with his ticket office and see if they had additional information. They did.
As Hornstein originally told me, USF’s ticket office had notified UCF it was returning 542 tickets. However, that was a mistake on USF’s part, McGillis said. USF wanted to keep the tickets and mistakenly told UCF it was returning the tickets.
USF had actually asked for 300 more tickets, so now the Bulls expect to sell their entire allotment of 4,700 tickets. And, Hornstein said, there are about 1,000 tickets remaining for the general public that can be purchased.
Maybe USF and UCF’s officials should have just held a conference call to clear the whole thing up?

Brett:
Charleston Southern - ‘97, ‘98, ‘02 and ‘03 which is 2 years beyond Liberty. Though it was not a 4 year annual series. Not sure if that is your point or not.

Ty, I wrote the last time USF defeated a “non-conference” team. East Carolina was a conference game, that’s why I didn’t include it.

actually we defeated East Carolina four consecutive times.
Once before we were in C-DOA
twice while we were in C-DOA
once after we left C-DOA in a Bowl game

Gary, great to hear from you. Yeah, I was looking at games in consecutive seasons. But, how could any one forget Charleston Southern?
