VERO BEACH Two days after injuring his left hamstring, USF starting quarterback B.J. Daniels was back on the practice field in pads and going through drills Thursday at the Vero Beach Sports Village.
Daniels said his hamstring felt considerably better than Wednesday, which allowed him to participate in all of the passing drills during the first half of practice. Most of the work came with the quarterbacks essentially doing little movement, though Daniels did roll out on a few occasions and didn’t seem to favor the leg. He was held out of team drills during the second half of practice, essentially following the plan USF coach Skip Holtz had laid out Tuesday evening.
Daniels was injured during Tuesday morning’s workout after scrambling out of the pocket during 11-on-11 drills. As Daniels headed for the sideline on the play he said “it felt like a pop a little bit” with his hamstring, though Daniels joked his pride might have been injured more than anything else.
“It was embarrassing falling in front of you guys,” Daniels told the media, laughing afterwards.
Daniels wasn’t sure when he’d resume practicing in full with the team, and wasn’t sure if coaches would allow him to participate in Saturday’s first scrimmage of the fall. USF is scheduled to have a walkthrough Friday.
“I’m going to continue to go to treatment and everything like that,” he said. “Right now they’re trying to play it safe, which is very understandable. But I am definitely fine.”
