The University of South Florida men’s soccer team got three goals in the opening 20 minutes Tuesday night and held on for a big 3-1 win at Louisville, extending the Bulls win streak to a season-high five games.
Midfielder Kevin Olali got USF on the board just 1:47 into the game, and the Bulls benefitted from two own goals to give them a commanding lead against the Cardinals, who were last season’s NCAA runner-up and entered the game ranked 15th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll.
USF, which climbed to No. 9 in the NSCAA poll this week, is unbeaten in its last eight games and improved to 10-2-2 overall and 5-0-1 in Big East Conference play. It was the fifth win for the Bulls against a nationally-ranked opponent during the current unbeaten streak.
USF has three regular-season games remaining - consecutive home matchups with Villanova (on Saturday) and Cincinnati (Oct. 26) before closing at Rutgers (Oct. 30) - before starting Big East Conference tournament play.
DWYER HONORED AGAIN: Junior forward Dom Dwyer was named the Big East’s offensive player of the week for a second straight week after totaling three goals and one assist in wins over DePaul and Syracuse. Dwyer leads the league in goals scored (13) and points (27).
