The USF men’s basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season Wednesday night, cruising past Florida Southern, 73-43, at the Lakeland Center.
Augustus Gilchrist finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots, and Blake Nash and Toarlyn Fitzpatrick also reached double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively, as the Bulls easily got past their lone Division II opponent on the schedule.
USF held Florida Southern to 25 percent shooting for the game and 5 percent (1-for-20) from 3-point range. The Bulls defense also blocked 12 shots, the third highest total in program history.
The Bulls also got plenty of production from their reserves, with Nash and Fitzpatrick leading a 37-point effort from the bench. Hugh Robertson chipped in eight points.
While USF finished with a season-high 14 turnovers, for the third consecutive game the Bulls finished with more assists (19).
