Sorry for the delay posting from Thursday’s morning practice, but I was jamming to this new CD ”HWY 41” all day and lost track of time. I have no idea if it’s the name of the group, name of the album/CD, but let me just say: it rocks.
Anyway, I’ll try and play catch up.
This just in from our TBO/Tampa Tribune/Ch. 8 news department - USF likes beer. At least beer ads on television.
That’s what the Trib’s Keith Morelli is reporting. USF’s coaches did not sign a petition calling for the elimination of alcohol advertisements on college athletics broadcasts. However, those lightweights at Florida, Florida State and UCF did along with 109 other coaches.
Only three football coaches from among nation’s top 25 ranked teams - Meyer, Ohio State’s Jim Tressel and Auburn’s Tommy Tuberville - signed the petition.
A couple hundred athletics directors and university presidents signed letters of support for the ban.
The only university president of schools with a top 25 team to sign a letter of support was Cecil O. Samuelson of No. 17 Brigham Young.
No one from USF signed a letter of support.
Lara Wade, director of media relations for USF, said administrators and the athletics department were aware of the petition but decided to hold off on signing it until the matter can be discussed at the Big East conference in November.
She said other schools in the conference will decide then whether to endorse the measure. Until then, drink responsibly.
FSU outlasts USF: It’s been a rough 24 hours for Tampa. First Brett Favre signed with the Jets instead of the Bucs, then USF lost its second-round coolest helmet matchup on ESPN.com.
The underdog Bulls, led by hundreds of motivated USF fans with sore refresh button fingers, fell to the Seminoles in the closest of margins, 51 to 49 percent.
USF pregame show expands: USF’s pregame radio show this football season will expand from 90 minutes to two hours. The Bulls games will be broadcast on flagship station 970 WFLA (Tampa). Other stations: 1250 WHNZ (Tampa), 620 WDAE (Tampa), 1010 WQYK (Tampa), 660 WORL (Orlando), 1400 WFLL (Fort Lauderdale), 1450 WSTU (Stuart), 1590 WPSL (Port St. Lucie), 1460 WZEP (Defuniak Springs), 1430 WKLF (Lakeland).
USF’s football radio team consists of Jim Louk (play-by-play), Mark Robinson (color commentator), Jim Lighthall (pre-game, post-game host), Mike Pepper (sideline reporter), Nick Quartaro (pre-game, post-game coaching breakdowns), Justin Pawlowski (pre-game, post-game co-host), Ed Pendino (engineer).
Pepper, though, might be questionable for the opener against Tennessee-Martin. Word is, he still hasn’t returned from Juarez from the Sun Bowl trip.

Brad, yes, as far as I know, all of the stations will run the entire programming.

Brett,
Do you know if the radio pre and post-game show will be broadcast to the “other stations” this season?
Posted by Brett McMurphy, on 08/07 at 10:44 PM
Joe, thanks. That’s what was on USF’s release. I’ll alert them also that it’s 660.
Posted by Joe, Orlando on 08/07 at 10:34 PM
Brett, just a note-the Orlando radio station is 660AM not 1660.

Miguel, here’s my response from all the knowledge I obtained in one year of eighth-grade Spanish: Si?
Posted by Miguel Pimiento, Juarez on 08/07 at 08:25 PM
Hola para Juarez! Este esta Miguel Pimiento. Alguien digame a ver este blog. Este no esta verdad que yo no sera al estadio de Raymond James para el juego detras USF y Tennessee-Martin. Yea Toros!
Lo siento for any Spanish mistakes. 3 years of Spanish 18 years ago doesn’t allow for perfection in the language

Ughhh, Joan, sorry about that - should have been a Ufer-like call.

Joan and Fergy, Jim is a great asset to USF athletics. Although, I’m still waiting for him to break out his Yost-like “streaked into the end zone like a penquin with a hot herring in his cumberbund” call this year.

Lighthall is DEFINATELY an asset to us USF fans. Did a great job last season with doing the play-by-play for basketball.

That line up sounds like a winner to us!!!! GO BULLS!!
Jim Lighthall is going to be one b-u-s-y guy!!!

USF’s in kind of a tough position with the beer thing, seeing as they play in a stadium with beer ads all over the place (which they have no control over), and where you can also buy very large cups of beer.
