DALLAS The B.J. Upton to the Nationals rumor was resurrected today by Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports, who tweeted the two teams are again discussing the deal, which had been a hot rumor at last July’s trade deadline.
Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post, who wrote the Nationals are interested in trading for a center field and placed Upton on the Nats short wish list, added Nats GM Mike Rizzo wasn’t going to dig too deep into the farm system to land a center fielder.
He also tweeted today that Rizzo said, “I don’t think anything has changed on that front,” when asked about a trade for Upton.
It’s doubtful it has, since Andrew Friedman said last week he wants to add offense this winter, and that would render a trade involving Upton counterproductive. Streaky as he is, Upton did hit 23 home runs and drive in 81 runs for the Rays in 2011.
