Under Armour Selection Tour hits Tropicanna Field for Agholor, Fowler and Poole

Three Bay area football players were honored for their selection to the 2012 Under Armour All-American Game. Berkeley Prep’s Nelson Agholor, Lakewood’s Dante Fowler Jr. and Bradenton Southeast’s Brian Poole participated in the “Selection Tour” presentation at Tropicanna Field, the site of the all-star game.

Tampa Bay Bucs defensive end Da’Quan Bowers was on hand to make the presentation to the players. Bowers, a Clemson alumnus, was the Most Valuable Player in the 2008 Under Armour game.

“Y’all should be proud of these young men,’’ Bowers said. “Not a lot of people get this opportunity. When in this game, being around all the guys, we created a bond. We built bonds that will last a lifetime.’’

The game will be played on Jan. 5. In the week leading up to the game, players will participate in a variety of activities, including practice and combines at the Disney Wide World of Sports complex. ESPN will televise the game and tickets are available through Ticketmaster.com.

Agholor, Berkeley Prep’s leading rusher and scorer, has averaged 164.1 rushing yards a game in helping lead his Bucs team to the state semifinals for the first time in school history. Berkeley travels to Delray Beach American Heritage Friday night for the Class 3A state semifinals. The winner advances to 3A state championship game on Dec. 10 to face the winner of the Madison County at Ocala Trinity Catholic semifinal.

“He is a great player but by far a better person,’’ Berkeley Prep football coach Dominick Ciao said.

Agholor thanked Berkeley athletic director Bobby Reinhart, his teammates and Ciao for their support.

“I’m blessed because of the people I put in my life,’’ Agholor said.

Fowler and his Lakewood team were shutout of the playoffs when they lost to Robinson in a Class 5A-8 game. Earlier this year, Fowler verbally committed to Florida State.
