The second day of the NFL Draft is half over, and so far, players from Florida schools aren’t exactly flying off the draft board.
Former Jefferson High and Florida receiver Andre Caldwell is one of five players from state schools drafted through the middle of the fifth round. If Chad Johnson’s days in Cincinnati are done as Johnson suggests, Caldwell could be in line to replace him.
Cincinnati selected Caldwell late in the third round with the 97th overall pick. Caldwell’s brother, Reche, was a second-round pick of the Chargers in 2002.
Florida State finally had a player selected when the Lions picked DT Andre Fluellen in the third round, making him the 87th overall pick.
Other players from state schools selected thus far: Detroit took UCF RB Kevin Smith with the first pick of the third round; Miami ILB Tavares Gooden went to Baltimore with the 71st overall pick; and with the final pick of the fourth round, Green Bay selected UCF OT Josh Sitton.
Check back later and we’ll have a complete report listing the players selected from Florida schools.
