Tim Tebow, Adrian Peterson, Mark Sanchez and Ndamukong Suh have all played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Jefferson senior defensive end Tyriq McCord will join that list of prestigious names on Jan. 7, 2012 in San Antonio.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Selection tour arrived at Jefferson to personally invite McCord, a 6-foot-4, 230 pound sack machine. You can watch a video of the ceremony here
“This is a blessing,” said McCord, who has 44 tackles and 10.5 sacks this season. “Not many people can say they’ve played in an All-American game.”
McCord, who narrowed his top six to TCU, USC, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Miami, said its a possibility he may announce his decision during the game.
“I feel like I’m representing this school,” McCord said.
Also on Wednesday, Jefferson head coach Jeremy Earle was invited to the game to watch McCord play and will attend the U.S. Army Coaches Academy, a three-day clinic.
“Its a great honor for Tyriq,” Earle said. “He deserves everything that he gets.”
Earle also said junior receiver Aaron Jenkins has been invited to attend the U.S. Army National Combine. McCord is the first Jefferson player since Bubba Caldwell in 2002 to play in the U.S. Army game.
