Two rising stars on the University of Florida’s women’s golf team will test their games against some of the nation’s top amateurs.
Sophomores Isabelle Lendl and Mia Piccio will play Aug. 9-15 in the 2010 United States Women’s Amateur Championship after playing well in their respective qualifiers.
Lendl shot a 74 (+2) to finish a stroke away from first at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, Mass. Piccio carded a 71 (-1) at Sapona Country Club in Lexington, N.C., to finish fourth, three strokes behind a three-way tie for first.
The top five from each tournament qualified to play in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C.
Lendl earned a nod to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team and the Second Team All-SEC selection last season. Piccio led the gators with a 74.7 stroke average.
The two sophomores will compete in a field of 156 golfers to see if they can make a 64-player cut after the second round. Match play ensues afterwards in a 36-hole competition to determine a champion.
