The Minnesota Twins selected Brooks-DeBartolo infielder Jadamion Williams in the 10th round (315th overall) of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday, making the Phoenix slugger the first high school senior from Hillsborough County selected in this year’s amateur draft.
Williams, who played in the Under Armour All-American game last summer and has signed with Maryland, hit .449 with eight doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 20 RBIs this past seaosn for Brooks-DeBartolo. He also stole 39 bases.
This is the second consecutive year a Phoenix player has been selected in the MLB draft. Williams’ older brother, Reggie Williams Jr., was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 32nd round of the 2009 amatuer draft, though he did not sign and played junior college baseball this season in Georgia.
