With only a week to go before the NFC trade deadline, the Bucs face a dilemma.
Given the uncertainty surrounding veteran WR Joey Galloway, Tampa Bay must decide whether to pursue another downfield threat for a passing game that ranks among the league’s least efficient.
The Bucs average only 5.45 yards per pass attempt and have rarely thrown deep during a 3-2 start that leaves them one game behind first-place Carolina in the NFC South. Galloway, who turns 37 in November, missed training camp with a groin strain and has been sidelined the past three weeks due to a foot injury that leaves Coach Jon Gruden anxious for his return.
If the Bucs decide to add another target through a trade, they could look toward some of the league’s bottom feeders for help.
Roy Williams of Detroit or Torry Holt of the Rams may be available for the right price and the Chiefs may listen to offers for TE Tony Gonzalez, a future Hall of Famer who still has the speed to go deep at age 32.
Through five weeks, the Bucs are averaging a league-leading 41 pass attempts per game, but the lack of production has Gruden frustrated. Tampa Bay averages only 9.2 yards per completion, tied with the Bengals and Chiefs for last in the NFL, and the Bucs have only five completions of 20 or more yards.
In contrast, the Panthers have completed 35 fewer passes but trail the Bucs by only 22 fewer receiving yards.
The Bucs are well under the salary cap and GM Bruce Allen has repeatedly suggested the club is positioned to make a run at a significant player if warranted.
All NFL trades must be completed by 4 p.m. next Tuesday.
Should the Bucs stand pat, or would they be wise to trade for a proven WR? How much would you be willing to give up for a Torry Holt or a Tony Gonzalez?

There are 4 teams with no wins, i bet we can get a WR from 1 of them, don’t think we need another TE

i think that a trade is needed in this situtation. coach gruden has been highly faithful to this core of recivers over the last few years and they constanly let our head coach down. clayton is inconsistant at best, stovall the same, galloway always let’s us down and is never there when we need him, dexter jackson is a complete joke(and we spent a top teir pick for that garbage), bryant is good but i see he won’t show up ever week. outside of hillard we have nothing at receiver. so if a trade is warrented it has to be at WR. HELP PLEASE!

Are you crazy! If Galloway is not completely heal, Then put him on the IRL for rest of the year. Go Bring in Holt the speedy WR from Rams or Gonzales the TE. I just don’t know why we are a prime team to make several trades on veterans that would Improve our team and make a run this year at the playoffs. I think at least 1 wr & TE plus I think Tampa should package a trade with Graham involve. I think Bennett and Dunn could handle the load untill Williams get back. GO Bucs

Kurt in NC,
I think the smog in NC is getting to ya a bit… The Bucs offense is terrible, it was bad before they got here and its still bad. I was a season ticket holder for 10 years and priced out of that, this offense hasn’t improved under Gruden. The only thing different is him running 10,000 variations of 1000 plays and the players not understanding half of it. As Monty’s D goes the Buc’s team goes and will be that way until Kiffin leaves. Plain and Simple!

Kinzer. Our offense was terrible before Gruden got here. You can’t say that we haven’t completely re-tooled it and quite frankly, it has been looking pretty good on most Sundays. Our biggest obstacles right now are penalties (youth) and speed (Galloway.) You are way out of line and quite frankly just dead wrong with your comments. Roy Williams would be a nice vertical threat to go along with Galloway when he heals! Go get him Bruce!!!

Torrey Holt is the only player that is more injury prone than Galloway. Troupe has speed and Is younger than Gonzalez but we let him go for Stevens. Roy Williams dropped more passes last week than Clayton. None of these guys are the answer.

i think the bucs offense would be explosive with torry holt he could stretch the field opening up the running game

Tory Holt is also 32, that’s not too old in my opinion. I don’t think Roy Williams would do well here although it might be easier to get him than Holt. Holt would be the smart choice though if they could make it work. He’d be worth a draft pick or perhaps we could unload one of these other guys that can’t stay healthy or catch the ball with consistency.

It is so disgusting that we have such a good defense and have had for 10 years. We have one of the worst offenses and it has been that way for all of the Gruden years with the Bucs. Gruden isn’t anywhere near being an offensive Guru!! Either Brucie is so inept in doing his job to get Good talent or the Glazers have put their cap on spending for players. Has Beens and Wanna Bees are not what we need at QB and Receivers. Gruden also needs to get Bennett involved in the offense, he was the best preseason back. Without talent, the Bucs will not be better than 8 and 8 and that may be too rosy of a prediction!

If theres a chance to get Torry Holt we better jump on that. That would be a huge gain, getting a hall of famer that still has some gas in the tank!

I read on another website that T.J. Houshmandzadeh is available along with Roy Williams and Torry Holt. I think any one of these guys would fit into the Bucs’ system. Either way, something needs to be done before the deadline because they need help. Allen needs to quit sitting on the all the cap money and get the wallet out. Also, trading for Tony Gonzalez would be a waste of a draft pick because the Bucs do all but ignore the TE position.
