Topps will be rushing into 2012 with what it hopes will be a golden promotion.
To support the release of 2012 Series 1 baseball in a few months, Topps is partnering with the Major League Baseball Players Association to produce a Gold Rush Promotion.
The Gold Rush will include a special wrapper redemption program and special tickets found in Series 1. These tickets will unlock gold infused autographed baseballs signed by Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Ken Griffey Jr. Now that would be a baseball to have; the three players would make quite an outfield, don’t you think? (Willie in center field, Hank in right field and Junior in left: that’s how I’d place them). And, they had 2,045 home runs among them.
Plus, there will be autograph cards signed by Hall of Famers like Sandy Koufax.
Topps is wise to promote the heck out of Mays, Aaron and Griffey. The first two greats appeal to the over-50 segment of card collectors like me, while Griffey still has name recognition to this generation of card collectors.
Topps will release more details on the promotion as the release date for Series 1 baseball draws nearer.
