Top of weekly soccer polls remain the same

The Hillsborough County boys week 5 and girls week 6 coaches polls were released Tuesday.

The coaches poll, in its fourth season, is released weekly and a tabulated by Wharton soccer coaches Denis Vukorep (girls) and Scott Ware (boys) and accepts votes from any Hillsborough County soccer coach. Teams listed with records (according to poll) as of Monday and previous ranking in parenthesis.

This week in the boys’ poll, the top six remains unchanged as Jesuit has led the poll all five weeks. Undefeated Steinbrenner, Sickles and Lennard all stay in the same spots, as does Tampa Prep and Newsome. Strawberry Crest’s undefeated season and win Friday over Plant City finally gets the Chargers some attention.

In the girls’ poll this week, Plant topped Wharton last week to hold on to the top spot, while the Wildcats jump Newsome after the Wolves dropped a match Friday to Bloomingdale. The Bulls’ win moves the team into the No. 5 slot, while Tampa Prep returns to the rankings this week.
