Whatever interest the Rays had in Jim Thome is moot now that the left-handed slugger signed with Twins on Tuesday afternoon.
Thome would have been an interesting fit for the Rays since they already have a DH in Pat Burrell. Thome might have been the lefty half of a lefty-righty DB platoon with Burrell, but we’ll never know.
Thome is an interesting fit for the Twins since they already have a lefty DH in Jason Kubel, who hit .300 with 103 RBIs last season.
The Twins plan to use Thome off the bench.
