Well, these mighty Tampa Bay Buccaneers of ours, pretty doggone good most of the time, lost another NFL game up near Niagara Falls, in Buffalo on Sunday.
The Bills were a little better this time around and Tampa’s latest nugget of talent and size was still lacking in judgment and execution. The newest on the quarterback block, named Byron Leftwich, was off here and there and that shortcoming led to a 33-20 defeat by those old Buffalo Bills, owned by Ralph Wilson Jr.
So, the Buccaneers played their second game of another football season, a day after the deep, powerful Florida Gators, with the remarkable Tim Tebow, handled tip-top Tennessee in front of nearly 91,000 strong at The Swamp. A talented Florida State whipped up on Brigham Young out West, and Jim Leavitt’s South Florida Bulls zapped another on their Up East Schedule before losing stud quarterback, Matt Grothe, to a lousy injury.
Football in the State of Florida, at least on the collegiate level, is on the prowl.
Some of the pros may be, too.
These Buccaneers of today aren’t bad. Could be decent. Could become lousy, and blow their hopes of a playoff shot as they did a year ago.
A bum finish of losing the last four games got head coach Jon Gruden fired but he would up on Monday Night Football. Some things are better than losing.
Gruden will be a hit on Monday Night Football. Have to have some smart-##### in you to do MNF.
Too soon to tell if new kids running the show at One Buc, head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Mark Dominick have done right or wrong with their decisions. The first one was to get rid of the graybeards. They very quickly declared Josh Freeman the quarterback of the future. Youth would be served, or at the least given a shot.
Got to admire Morris. If he does go down early it will be by his own deeds or misdeeds.
You will like Raheem Morris; he likes to laugh and always wears a smile . He has decided to go with the youngsters, much like the Glazers have done with him and Dominick. But the young guy has started his NFL coaching career with an O-2 record. Young Raheem Morris has more and more work to do these days. Hard to justify tickets for a team that is 0-2, and not 2-0.
No, no way these Bucs, so long in the crafting, can be 0-2.
That loss at Buffalo, in Tampa Bay weather? Unacceptable.
No, don’t give up, just don’t give in.
