GAINESVILLE — So what can a football national title and a pair of basketball national titles in a 366-day span get you? Lots of dough. Ten figures worth, to be more precise.
The U.S. Department of Education has updated its Equity In Athletics site to include figures from the fiscal year ending June 30, 2007 for many schools, and Florida ranks second in the nation in total revenue with $107,781,004. The school the Gators beat for their last two national titles — Ohio State — ranked first with $109,382,222.
To take a look at the breakdowns for every school in the nation, click here, find the school you want and check out the numbers. When you get to each school’s screen, clck the link at the top that reads “Revenues and Expenses.”
But remember, though some schools report revenues in the tens of millions, some of those revenues may come from public funds or from hefty athletics fees included in students’ tuition. Only a few dozen athletic departments — such as Florida, Ohio State, Texas ($105 million), Georgia ($78 million) and Michigan ($89 million) — are truly self-sufficient.
