ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi knows his college basketball, and in his end-of-regular season analysis of the projected NCAA Tournament field, USF has no chance.
Lunardi has Florida on the NCAA Tournament bubble and making it into the field, but not USF. Of course, the Bulls can change all that with a strong performance in New York at the Big East Tournament.
Here is the way Lunardi sees the teams on the fringe of the field:
The Bubble (22 teams for 11 spots)
Currently In (listed in S-curve order): Marquette Golden Eagles, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, Virginia Tech Hokies, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Florida Gators, Saint Mary’s Gaels, Memphis Tigers, Arizona State Sun Devils, San Diego State Aztecs, Illinois Fighting Illini.
Currently Out (listed in S-curve order): Washington Huskies, Rhode Island Rams, Dayton Flyers, Mississippi Rebels, UAB Blazers, Seton Hall Pirates, Mississippi State Bulldogs, Minnesota Golden Gophers, Wichita State Shockers, South Florida Bulls, Connecticut Huskies.
Off The Board: Cincinnati Bearcats
First Four Out: Washington, Rhode Island, Dayton, Ole Miss
Last Four In: Memphis, Arizona State, San Diego State, Illinois

Reality has set in for me. I realize that usf must win two (2) games at the Big East tourney. Their RPI is around 63 and CBS Sportsline has them at around that same spot. It is a “no win” situation to play DePaul. Beating DePaul will prove nothing to the so called experts and if usf loses, then they do not belong in the “Big Dance” b/c they cannot beat lowly DePaul.
It would have been better to have faced any B.E. team, other than DePaul, in the first round. Especially, if we could face have faced (and beaten) Saint Johns.

You’re right in that playing DePaul in first round is not really helping that much in view of the pundits…but if USF beats DePaul, and then beats Georgetown a second time, you can bet there will be some added buzz around Bulls…I’m a little surprised at all the talk about Seton Hall being a sleeper team ahead of USF.
