Just five minutes after the 10 hour mark, Scott Sharp had a very scary moment when his #01 Tequila Patron Tequila 430 GT burst into flames entering Turn 17 – in clear view from the Patron team and VIP hospitality center.
The rear end of the car was fully engulfed in fire—it looked like a jet dragster from behind! – and he slowly came to a stop. It took Sharp several seconds to climb out of the burning vehicle while corner worker and ALMS rescue personnel raced to his aid. Sharp apparently was uninjured in the incident that brought out the race’s fifth caution and triggered a flurry of pit stops.
