Tampa Catholic senior linebacker Alec Maughan is out for Friday’s game against Zephyrhills after suffering a concussion and separated shoulder in last week’s season-opening victory over Bradenton Bayshore, Crusaders coach Bob Henriquez said.
Henriquez said Maughan sustained the separated shoulder moments after getting his “bell rung” on a kickoff. He said Maughan came to the sidelines and, still dizzy from the blow to his head, fell and landed on his shoulder.
Muaghan is out of action for this week but, with an open date coming up after Zephyrhills, should be able to return for the Crusaders’ Sept. 23 game against Bloomingdale. Maughan is a key starter on defense and returns as one of the squad’s leading tacklers from the 2010 season.
