Tampa Catholic junior offensive lineman Corey Martinez, a first team all-Hillsborough County selection this season by the Tampa Tribune and a first team pick for the Class 3A all-state squad, landed his eighth Division I scholarship offer on Wednesday night when Rutgers made him a pitch.
Rutgers joins West Virginia, Miami, Florida State, South Florida, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Kentucky as the D1 schools trying to lure the 6-foot-4, 290-pound Martinez. Florida, Alabama, Cincinnati and Michigan State have also expressed interest in the Crusaders’ three-year starter.
Martinez is currently carrying a 3.5 grade point average.
