Tampa Catholic senior Zach Dyer, one of the Crusaders’ most versatile players last season seeing action at safety, kicker, running back and receiver, has received a preferred walk-on spot at six-time FCS national champion Georgia Southern. The offered was confirmed by his parents through Eagles defensive backs coach Orlando Mitjans.
The 5-foot-10, 205-pound Dyer was Tampa Catholic’s second-leading tackler last fall with 54 and also registered two fumble recoveries and two passes defended. He also handled the bulk of the kicking chores, sending 11 kickoffs into the end zone or beyond for touchbacks and booting 13 point-after kicks and three field goals.
On offense, Dyer scored three rushing touchdowns and one receiving.
Besides their six national crowns, the Georgia Southern Eagles have captured eight Southern Conference championships and have produced two Walter Payton Award winners.
